A hand-drawn journey through a day at Renaissance Retirement Living, showcasing the people, activities and lifestyle that make the community feel like home.
Renaissance Retirement Living wanted to give prospective residents a glimpse into what everyday life within their communities could look like. To bring that experience to life, IPER partnered with our sister brand, Explanimate!, to create a whiteboard sketch animation following a typical day in the life of a Renaissance resident. Through hand-drawn visuals, character animation and sound design, the film moves through the different moments, activities and connections that can make up a day at Renaissance, turning the retirement living experience into an engaging visual story.
Rather than simply listing the facilities and activities available to residents, the concept takes viewers on a journey through an entire day. Following the experience of a resident allowed us to naturally introduce different aspects of life at Renaissance, from everyday routines and activities to the social connections that come with being part of the community. The whiteboard format gave the story a warm and approachable feel, with each new scene appearing before the viewer as the resident's day unfolds.
Our sister brand, Explanimate!, brought the story to life through custom whiteboard sketch animation. Each illustration was designed to communicate the lifestyle and environment simply, while maintaining personality and visual interest throughout the film. The hand-drawn approach allowed locations, characters and activities to transition seamlessly from one moment to the next, creating a continuous visual journey rather than a series of disconnected scenes.
IPER completed the sound design for the animation, adding another layer of personality to the illustrated world. Carefully placed sound effects helped give movement and energy to moments that existed entirely on the page, complementing the animation and helping the viewer feel immersed in the resident's day. The finished piece combines illustration, animation and sound to provide an engaging introduction to everyday life at Renaissance Retirement Living.
